Dislocated Worker Program

Purpose
This program exists to lessen the negative economic impact of layoffs for Minnesota workers and employers by providing services that help unemployed workers return to work with a minimal amount of wage and opportunity loss.

Customers and Services
The program serves laid-off workers and the businesses that hire them. When a layoff/closing occurs or may occur, the Dislocated Worker Rapid Response team contacts the business to assess the situation and inform workers of available services. Program participants receive assessment, testing, job counseling, job-search assistance, and related services. Training is also available, but not all dislocated workers receive training services. Workers who do not have easily transferable skills and are unlikely to find employment in the same industry receive priority in the scope of services for which they qualify. Veterans and their spouses who have barriers to employment also receive priority of service. Limited support services, such as assistance in paying health insurance, child care, transportation, and other one-time emergency needs are also available.
