Trade Adjustment Assistance Program
Purpose
This program assists workers in reentering the workforce as quickly as possible with work search, relocation, job training, and weekly cash benefits. There are two major components, separately funded by the U.S. Department of Labor: weekly cash benefits, Trade Readjustment Allowances (TRAs), paid to eligible workers following their exhaustion of unemployment insurance; and reimbursement of training costs, job search allowances, and relocation allowances under Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA).
Customers and Services
Customers are incumbent workers who have lost their jobs due to increased imports or foreign competition. They may be in a sustained work search supported by TRA benefit payments or in retraining programs supported by TAA. Other benefits include certification for the Health Coverage Tax Credit, which is financial assistance for health insurance premium costs; and Alternate Trade Adjustment, which is a wage supplement benefit for eligible workers who are over 50 years old.
Measures - Reporting period is state fiscal year (SFY), July 1 - June 30
