Our Purpose

DEED's three major functions are to:

• Support business creation, expansion, relocation, and retention in Minnesota.
• Stabilize and stimulate the economy in times of downturn through benefit payments.
• Support the workforce needs of Minnesota’s businesses, workers, and communities.

DEED manages over 50 programs throughout the state. Specialists market Minnesota to attract new business and help develop existing or start-up businesses. Community development staff address revitalization issues and prepare for economic development opportunities.  

There are nearly 50 WorkForce Centers where people looking for jobs can find employment and career assistance. An online job bank—MinnesotaWorks.net—connects job seekers and employers. There are unemployment insurance benefits for people who have lost their jobs through no fault of their own. And, DEED's labor market information helps all customers make educated decisions about their futures.
