Camps to Careers

Minnesota Camps to Careers offers an opportunity for young men and women to explore and prepare for stimulating and high-wage careers. The program allows high school students to experience a career through hands-on projects in businesses or in college classrooms.

Participants receive guidance and assistance to take the next steps in career development. These steps may include: obtaining internships to acquire real job experience or on-the-job training to build networking within a specific industry, and improving job readiness when seeking permanent employment.

Camps to Careers began with a two-week manufacturing camp in the summer of 2007. It was piloted as a means to expose youth to the many high-skill, high-wage career options within the manufacturing industry. Because of the positive response from youth who attended, the initiative has expanded to five regions, 16 camps and now includes health care industry, digital media, and arts-related career exposure.

Camps to Careers is administered through local/ regional cross-organizational teams who work to ensure that all youth have career development opportunities. Team members include representatives from school districts, colleges, Work Force Centers, county social services, businesses and non-profit groups, parents and students.
