The number of job vacancies grew 18.0 percent from one year ago, to 58,860 during fourth quarter 2012. Seventeen of 22 occupational groups showed growth in the number of job vacancies from one year ago. Those showing the strongest growth from last year include: Community and Social Services, Farming, Fishing, and Forestry, Management, Computer and Mathematical, Food Preparation and Serving Related, Transportation and Material Moving, Architecture and Engineering, Construction and Extraction, Legal and Education, Training, and Library.
About 34,400 job vacancies, or 58.4 percent, were located in the Twin Cities seven-county area. The remaining 24,460 were in Greater Minnesota.
Overall, there were 2.6 unemployed job seekers for each job vacancy statewide. This ratio indicates that the labor market is continuing to improve for job seekers but is still more competitive than before the recession.
