Job Vacancies

The number of job vacancies grew 32.1 percent from one year ago, to 54,700 during second quarter 2011.  Eighteen of 22 occupational groups showed growth in the number of job vacancies from one year ago.  Only four occupations showed a decline: Building Cleaning & Grounds Maintenance, Education, Training & Library, Healthcare Support and Legal.

About 29,500 job vacancies, or 54 percent, were located in the Twin Cities seven-county area.  The remaining 25,200 were in Greater Minnesota.

Overall, there were 3.6 unemployed workers for each job vacancy statewide.  This ratio indicates that while the labor market is much better for job seekers than during the peak of the 2009 recession, there are still more job seekers than job vacancies.
