U.S. Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U)

On a seasonally adjusted basis the July CPI-U increased 0.3 percent from June. The July CPI-U increased 1.2 percent from July 2009. The index for energy increased 2.6 percent from June to July, the first increase since January 2010. This increase drove the All Items index increase for July. The food index declined 0.1 percent from June. The July index for all items less food and energy rose 0.1 percent from June.
The CPI-U for the Minneapolis-St. Paul-Bloomington Metropolitan Area for the first half of 2010 rose 2.3 percent from the first half of 2009. The impetus for this increase came from a 17 percent increase in the energy index, led by a 30 percent rise in the cost of gasoline from the first half of 2009.
