U.S. Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U)

On a seasonally adjusted basis the April CPI-U increased 0.4 percent from March and increased 3.2 percent from April 2010. The index for energy increased 2.2 percent from March to April, contributing to an over-the-year increase of 19 percent. Fuel oil (including gasoline) drove the trend with an over-the-year increase of 35.1 percent. The food index rose 0.4 percent from March. The April index for all items less food and energy rose 0.2 percent over the month and rose 1.3 percent from April of 2010.
