U.S. Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers

On a seasonally adjusted basis the October CPI-U decreased 0.1 percent from September and increased 3.5 percent from October 2010, not seasonally adjusted. The decline was driven by energy prices which fell 2.0 percent overall. The largest declines in energy categories were for gasoline, fuel oil, and utility gas service, down 2.9 percent, 3.1 percent, and 3.0 percent respectively. The largest increases were in apparel (up 0.4 percent for October) and in medical care services (up 0.5 percent). The October index for all items less food and energy rose 0.1 percent over the month and rose 2.1 percent from October of 2010.
