U.S. Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U)
September
2011
On a seasonally adjusted basis the August CPI-U increased 0.4 percent from July and increased 3.8 percent from August 2010, not seasonally adjusted. The increase was broad-based, driven by several industries rather than a few. The energy index
increased by 1.2 percent, a moderate change in an index that has been volatile this year. The index for food at home increased by 0.6 percent over the month, matching last month’s high. The apparel index increased by 1.1 percent over the month, continuing a fairly steep upward trend. The July index for all items less food and energy rose 0.2 percent over the month and rose 2.0 percent from August of 2010.
