Green Construction Training
One of the major areas of growth in green jobs will be the construction and architectural fields. Understanding the technology and materials will be important for you in finding jobs in the green economy.
- Dunwoody College of Technology is offering courses and training in the area of green education. Choose from a five-day residential auditor energy training class, a three-day weatherization insulation installer course, a one-day construction and demolition recycling accreditation course, and a 12-hour LEED Green Associate Exam Prep course.
- The Fond du Lac Tribal and Community College offers a Clean Technology Certificate with classes in wind, photovoltaic, home energy and alternative and renewable energy systems.
- Rainy River Community College has a Green and Sustainable Construction Technology associate degree program.
- Live Green Live Smart Institute offers training focused on builders, designers, inspectors, decorators and others.
- St. Paul College offers green manufacturing and LEED certification through its green construction program. It also incorporates green principles into courses on automotive technology, pipe fitting, floor covering, welding, energy process technology and engineering technology.
- St. Paul College has a Photovoltaic systems and Certificate of Knowledge (COK) Exam continuing education course for electrical engineers, journeymen & master electricians.
- The AFL-CIO recently unveiled its Center for Green Jobs to assist American workers in getting green job training grants and helping unions create green jobs’ programs.
- The Minneapolis Community and Technical College is working with Opportunities Industrialization Centers throughout the state to develop a green jobs program. In addition, the college incorporates green approaches into cabinetry, welding and other courses.
- Hennepin Technical College has incorporated sustainable energy training into architectural drafting, cabinetmaking, landscape design, automotive technology and HVAC. The college is developing a Building Energy program.
- Several Minnesota State Colleges and Universities (MnSCU) campuses offer courses in water quality technician, sustainable tourism, regulatory affairs and services, agronomy technician, powerline technician, construction trades and other green-related courses.
- MnSCU’s customized training program, the largest in the state, can offer green-themed educational opportunities to Minnesota businesses.
