Grant Funds Training for Parker Hannifin Employees

ST. PAUL – The state Department of Employment and Economic Development’s Minnesota Job Skills Partnership Program (MJSP) announced a $135,000 grant to support safety and technical skills training for 120 Parker Hannifin, Inc. employees in New Ulm.

The training collaboration includes MJSP, Ridgewater College and Parker Hannifin, a Cleveland, Ohio-based manufacturer of motion and control technologies. The company's products are vital to items that move or require control, including the manufacture and processing of raw materials, durable goods, infrastructure development and all forms of transport.

“This training will support the company’s future growth and allow current and future employees to develop their skills and advance within the company,” said Dan McElroy, DEED commissioner and MJSP board chair. “In addition, Ridgewater College will build the capacity to deliver machining and safety training to regional businesses.”

Under the one-year grant, technicians, assemblers, operators, maintenance staff and management will receive safety training courses in Electrical Safety, Workplace Safety Audit by Zone, Fire Extinguisher Training and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10-hour Basic Compliance.

Ridgewater College will also work with Alexandria Technical and Community College to provide technical training in CNC Mill and Lathe Operations, Theory, Controls and Programming, Basic and Advanced Blueprint Reading, Gaging and Metrology and Basic Statistical Process Control. Employee-trainees will earn certificates for successfully completing the courses.

For more information on the grant, contact Pat Lang, Ridgewater College, 320-234-8537, or e-mail, pat.lang@ridgewater.edu.

MJSP offers technical, financial and job training assistance to businesses, communities, educational institutions and workers. The board brings businesses with specific education needs together with educational institutions to design customized training programs.
