New Job Skills Grant Funds Training
for IBM Employees in Rochester

ST. PAUL – The state Department of Employment and Economic Development’s Minnesota Job Skills Partnership Program (MJSP) announced a $321,853 grant to support retraining for 300 IBM employees in Rochester.

The funding will enable MJSP, Rochester Community and Technical College and IBM to work together to train employees for the company’s "Smarter Planet" initiative. Under the two-year grant, software engineers, research and development engineers, sales architects and consulting services staff will be trained in three areas: smart sensors, network connectivity and quantitative analysis.

“This training will support the company’s anticipated revenue growth and allow employees to develop their skills and advance within the company,” said Dan McElroy, DEED commissioner and MJSP board chair. “In addition, Rochester Community and Technical College will increase its ability to meet the ongoing educational needs of IBM and other regional businesses.”

For more information on the grant, contact Sara Bunge, workforce development specialist, Rochester Community and Technical College, 507-280-3124, or e-mail sara.bunge@roch.edu.

MJSP offers technical, financial and job training assistance to businesses, communities, educational institutions and workers. The board brings businesses with specific education needs together with educational institutions to design customized training programs.
