Job Skills Grant Funds Woodcraft Technician Training for Marvin Windows Employees
|
ST. PAUL – The state Department of Employment and Economic Development’s Minnesota Job Skills Partnership Program (MJSP) announced a $193,859 grant to support retraining for 70 Marvin Windows and Doors employees in Warroad.
The funding will enable MJSP, Minnesota State Community and Technical College (M State) and Marvin to work together to train employees for highly skilled custom woodcraft positions. Under the one-year grant, woodcraft technicians will be trained in Manufacturing Processes, Print Reading and Math Review, CAM/CNC, and Construction Methods. Employee-trainees will earn a 16-credit woodcraft technician certificate or continuing education units by successfully completing the training.
“This training will support the company’s succession planning by developing highly skilled employees ready to step into positions vacated by retirements,” said Dan McElroy, DEED commissioner and MJSP board chair. “In addition, M State will increase its knowledge of skills needed in custom manufacturing and implement a succession training program to meet the needs of regional businesses.”
For more information on the grant, contact Rhonda Bahls, Minnesota State Community and Technical College, 218-347-6235, or email rhonda.bahls@minnesota.edu.
