Data Practices
The Minnesota Government Data Practices Act (MGDPA), per Minn. Stat. § 13, requires public agencies to: a) safeguard the privacy rights of data subjects about whom the agencies collect, store, and use information; and b) facilitate access to all government data that should lawfully be disclosed. The Department of Employment and Economic Development (DEED) strives to meet its responsibilities under the MGDPA, balancing the right of the public to access information with the right of individuals to their privacy, through its data practices.
DEED has created these Guides to assist both individuals and members of the public in obtaining information under the MGDPA:
- Guide for Members of the Public Requesting Information
The MGDPA gives everyone the right to inspect (look at) and have copies of public data that DEED keeps. This document explains this right and how to obtain public information at DEED.
- Guide for Requesting Information about You
The MGDPA gives every individual important rights when DEED collects, creates, stores, uses, or releases data about him or her. This document explains this right and how to obtain information about yourself.
For a list of private and nonpublic data that DEED maintains, see DEED's Data Inventory.
