Workshops and Other Services - Creative Job Search

Creative Job Search

We live in a constantly changing economy. Corporate reorganizations, new technologies and global competition affect all our lives. Workers today will hold many jobs and will change careers several times. Job success is dependent on marketable job skills and a passion for excellence. Those workers who stay on the cutting edge of change will see greater potential for personal growth and economic security.

One of the greatest areas of change is the way people look for work. It is not enough to be ready and willing to work. A successful job search today requires a very calculated effort. Job seekers not only need marketable job skills, they need the skills to market them. You may be the best at what you do; but if you cannot convince a potential employer, you will not win the job. Today's successful job seekers use a variety of skills in their job search - skills that can be learned.

Creative Job Search services are offered by WorkForce Centers throughout Minnesota. Expert staff are available to help people master a successful job search. Review the following menu of services then check the Statewide Listing of WorkForce Center Workshops to discover which services are offered in your area. Classes offered are available at no cost.

Resume Writing Workshop

The resume has become a critical job search tool for anyone looking for work. Many employers require a resume; and even when they don't, the resume is an effective way to get their attention. Yet, writing a great resume takes a lot of work. While a well written resume can enhance your job search, a poorly written one can destroy your chances.

Workshops are offered around the state to teach resume writing principles. Staff will not write your resume for you. You wouldn't like it if they did because it wouldn't be your resume. But staff will work with you to create an attention getting resume that will enhance your chance of getting interviews.

Job Club

Job Club consists of job seekers who meet regularly to discuss their efforts, share job leads and master job search skills. Guest speakers, including employers, employment professionals and successful job seekers are often invited to share their insights. Each Job Club is different and is constantly changing - mainly because the membership in the group is constantly changing. People keep finding jobs!

The benefits of Job Club are incredible. It helps job seekers master job search skills and stay focused on their job search. Consistently those who participate in a Job Club find jobs faster than those who don't.
