OVAC 210 CCTV

OVAC 210 Closed Caption TV (CCTV) is an inexpensive hand-held or arm-mounted video camera that provides an electronic magnification of reading materials to a video monitor or TV set.  It enlarges to a higher degree than is possible with handheld optical magnifiers. Users can use the Resource Area TV; they just add the OVAC desktop or portable reader and the system is complete.

How it works: Position reading material under the OVAC portable reader.  Scan back and forth as you read across the page.  The document is magnified on a video monitor or TV set.

Who will benefit?  Individuals with low vision.

OVAC 210 Features:

The OVAC READER is connected to your TV by a cable which can be as long as you need to arrange things to meet your needs. You can place your desktop OVAC READER on a table beside your chair and the TV. Your reading system is now another channel on your TV, so you just change channels to switch between reading and the TV. For regular reading material, the simple controls of the OVAC are seldom needed:

OVAC Use Instructions:

  1. Remove the protection lens cap from the camera.
  2. Push the three position switch on the Video Enhance/Control Module (VECM) end to the left. This will turn the unit to "ON" in a positive viewing mode. Returning the switch to the center turns the unit "OFF" while pushing the switch to the right will turn the unit "ON" in a negative viewing mode. There is a short delay when first switching the unit "ON" in either mode.
  3. Place the object to be read under the roller base. Slowly move the camera up the base and stop when reaching the top. Tighten the knob if needed. Reach under and focus the lens.
  4. To increase the magnification, move the camera to the lowest point on the base and then re-focus.
  5. For write-under or work-under, remove the camera from roller base and attach to the flex arm. Adjust height (magnification) and focus to proper levels.
  6. For maximum contrast enhancement, the two-position switch on the left side of the VECM should be pushed (enhanced position). To view photos, push the two-position switch on the right side of the VECM to the right (photo position) and the three-position switch to the left for positive viewing mode.
