This project will train 100 healthcare workers, specifically Nursing Assistants, from the Somali population in Minnesota.   Bethesda Rehabilitation and Senior Care Services will benefit by being able to fill the high number of job vacancies for nursing assistants with qualified, supported, and well-trained workers.   Wages after training will start at $9.00 an hour.
 
MMCDC’s Teamworks Lamb-Weston/RDO $100,000 Partnership
This program will train 71 current machine operators and then develop a pool of machine operators that will be ready for future advancement positions using a human performance system.   MMCDC Teamworks will benefit from this project by having the capacity to grow and support other northern Minnesota companies. Wages after training will range from $8.66 an hour to $9.15 per hour.

This project will train 360 workers for precision assembly, safety, work ethics, leadership, and offering career growth for their employees.   MMCDC Teamworks will benefit from this project by expanding their capacity with new and existing businesses.   Wages after training will range from $8.36 to $19.45 an hour.
 
MMCDC’s Teamworks Homecrest Industries $200,000 Partnership

This project will train 560 workers for sewing, welding, fabrication, powder/spray paint training, industrial sewing, fabrication machine operator and fabrication capacity planning and welding.   MMCDC Teamworks will expand their capacity in the development of job aids adding a whole new intervention to the toolbox of human performance development.   Wages after training will range from     $9.80 to $23.30 an hour.
 
Anoka Ramsey Community College Boston Scientific SCIMED $399,996

Partnership

This project will train 1434 incumbent workers in cutting edge skills, while lowering the costs of curriculum development, instruction, information dissemination and lost production time.    The focus of this project is to build a flexible and broad-based online learning and communication system.   Anoka Ramsey Community College will benefit by using this project for a model for offering similar programs to businesses in the community that are seeking online education and training, and by providing online instruction for traditional students.     Wages after training will range from $13.50 per hour for clerks to $35.00 per hour for managers.
 
University of St. Thomas Schwan’s Technology Group $332,685

Partnership

Schwan’s has three main areas of need: Sales and Marketing, Manufacturing and Research and Development.     Schwan’s will train 229 employees in the areas of International and Domestic Market Penetration, Synchronous Manufacturing Processes and Quality Control, and New Product development and Resources.   The University of St. Thomas will improve its custom training abilities. Wages after training will range from $10.51 per hour for production assemblers to $60.00 per hour for   production.
 
Pine Technical College Spicer Off-Highway Products $214,000

Partnership

Spicer is feeling the pressures of a global marketplace.   Currently, Spicer is in direct competition with foreign competitors who are able to produce goods at a much lower cost.   They will focus on training 337 employees in the metric system and how to read prints in the European First Perspective.   In order for Spicer to maintain the company’s current position of supplier of choice, they must also adopt the ISO/QS 9000 standard in their operation as soon as possible.   Pine Technical College will gain new curriculum and capacities to deliver training and support to other businesses.   Wages after training will range from $13.13 per hours for Support Staff to $39.80 per hour for the Engineer manager.
 
Bemidji State University Northern Safety and Security $74,300

Partnership

NSS will train 183 utility workers in customer service, sales, website and security system installation.   This project will provide BSU the capability to offer for credit web delivered training to business and industry. Wages after training will be from $12.00 per hour for member services representatives and line workers to $25.00 per hour for managers.
 
Ridgewater College Marketing Concepts $201,321

Partnership

This project will train 195 workers, of which 90 will be new hires to staff a future call center to be opened in the next three years.   The curriculum will be based on software, e-commerce, and technical systems. Training will be done in the classroom, on-site, through ITV and over the Internet.   This project will provide Ridgewater College with the opportunity to update its existing computer science program through the addition of several new courses.   Wages after training will be from $8.47 per hour for Call Center Operators to $25.00 per hour for Programmers.
 
Alexandria Technical College Donnelly Custom Manufacturing $345,000

Partnership

This project will train 300 employees in a manufacturing environment.   The training will be divided up into 10 sections including Molding Operators, Information Systems, Quality, Safety, Internet, and Customer Service. Alexandria Technical College will benefit by adding to its Center for Automation and Motion Control.   Wages after training will range from $9.00 per hour for Entry Level Manufacturing to $30.00 per hour for Management.
 

Northland Community and Technical College

Polaris Industries

Partnership

Polaris is expanding its Roseau manufacturing facility due to production expansion.    Once the expansion is complete, Polaris will have the capability to produce shaft- driven, premium and utility ATV’s in a mixed model environment.   This project will train 529 employees.   NCTC will benefit by developing a Cellular Manufacturing curriculum based on the principles of the “20 keys to Workplace Improvement”.   Wages after training will range from $12.50 an hour to $21.63 an hour.
 
Central Lakes College US Link $130,715 Partnership
US link will train 225 workers in areas   that include multi-levels of telecommunication skills, telephony, fiber optics and digital systems training.   In addition, they will develop a mentor project to improve recruitment and retention.   CLC   will gain curriculum in the field of telecommunications. Wages after training will range from $9.00 to $27.00 per hour.
 
Central Lakes College PaR Systems, Inc. $225,000 Partnership
PaR is currently exploring the possibility of expanding their facilities due to internal growth and potential acquisitions by building refurbishment and adding space.    There will be 140   incumbent workers trained in technology based skills specific to PaR Systems products and services.   CLC will benefit from capacity building in the knowledge of the robotics systems manufacturing and CD Rom training modules.   Wages after training will range from $13.37 to $57.94 an hour.
 
Rochester Community and Technical College Crenlo, Inc. and Gauthier Industries, Inc. $200,000 Partnership

Both companies have identified Lean manufacturing as an immediate need.    They will be training 892 incumbent workers.   Lean Manufacturing will be an added curriculum to Rochester CTC.   Wages after training will range from $10.83 to $28.64 per hour.  
 

Carver Scott Educational Cooperative Ridgeview Medical Center $392,755 Partnership

Ridgeview Medical is facing a healthcare worker shortage and needs to develop a training program that will enable new employees to develop the skills needed to work in the healthcare industry.   A total of 835 individuals will be trained in many areas including Physician Order Entry (POE), intercultural training and an internal health information database.   Capacity will be gained by Carver Scott through the development of courses to support the new computer based technology and a healthcare “bootcamp” course for all entry level employees.   Wages after training will range from $10.00 to 15.00 per hour.

These companies are all facing similar challenges such as language barriers, technology and computer literacy.   A total of 1070 employees will be trained in many areas including ESL, communication and a new ERP system called “JDE”.   Carver Scott will gain capacity through the development of specific ERP and Intranet training modules. Wages after training will range from $9.50 an hour to $28.65 an hour.

This project will provide for the current nursing education path to be streamlined from what are multiple paths that accommodate single healthcare careers, into a single educational path that accommodates multiple health careers. A total of 240 employees will be trained to fill labor gaps.   MCTC will benefit by strengthening its student population, its high percentage of refugees, persons of color and MFIP recipients who are currently an untapped resource in Minnesota’s labor pool.   Wages after training will range from $9.00 to $19.00 an hour.
 

Dakota County Technical College Lloyd’s Barbecue Company $240,000 Partnership

Training will be developed to implement a certification and re-certification program.   The curriculum will be developed using the Advanced High Performance Manufacturing Concept as outlined by the Manufacturing Skill Standards Council.    The business will train 215 incumbent bilingual, multi-cultural workers.   Dakota County Technical College will increase its capacity to provide skill standards training to the manufacturing industry.   Wages after training will range from $10.16 to $14.40 per hour.
 

Dakota County Technical College Renewal by Andersen $335,812 Partnership
The participating business has identified three specific needs the company has: Quality, Operational Excellence and Speed, and will address these needs by implementing a Best Practices Manufacturing and Management System.   This project will train 390 employees.   Dakota County Technical College will gain curriculum in Machine Operations training. Wages after training will range from $14.30 to $32.04 an hour.
 
Dakota County Technical College Tapemark Company $300,000 Partnership
Specialized curriculum for 250 trainees will focus on eight modules that consist of : Introduction to Manufacturing, Business Principles, Quality and Productivity, Basic Manufacturing Skills, Workplace Success Skills and Web Systems.    Dakota County Technical College will adopt and customize the Georgia Department of Technical and Adult Education Certified Manufacturing Specialist Program. Wages after training will range from $14.58 per hour to $19.27 per hour.
 
Century College St. Paul Companies and Northland Insurance $399,665 Partnership
This project will help two large insurance companies to address labor shortage issues and skill proficiencies among their workforce by providing customized entry-level and advanced industry training to enhance their overall workforce performance and retention.   A total of 260 workers will be trained.   Century College will gain a comprehensive “one stop” insurance training center and an estimating lab with new technologies and property components all donated and/or loaned from the partnering businesses and other industry partners.   Wages after training will range from $11.25 to $23.53 per hour.
 
St. Paul Technical College Ergotron $150,300 Partnership
This project will train 176 incumbent workers at Ergotron.   A business analyst has identified the following training and development needs for Ergotron: Skills Training, Customized Instruction and Training Curriculum for Occupational English, Customized Hand Tool and Small Equipment Training, Advanced Technical Skills, Customized Curriculum Development for Career Paths and Promotions, Development of Communication and Conflict Management Skills and Leadership.   St. Paul Technical College will benefit by having an increased ability to provide a broad base of customized training for an important Twin Cities employer.   Wages after training will range from $10.71 to $47.64 an hour.
