This Advanced Soft Skills Training Program for 650 incumbent managers and supervisors will teach advanced leadership skills. This training enable Koch to strengthen relations between labor and management and enhance a pro active safety environment. DCTC will develop a new conduit to its Supervisory Management Degree Program. Trainees will receive credit toward the Supervisory Management Degree. Wages after training will range from $19.22 to $38.46 an hour.
 
MSU, Mankato Condux International $250,000 Partnership
This program will train 186 production and warehouse workers, engineers and mangers in “lean manufacturing” techniques, resource planning and conflict resolution. Condux anticipates a 20% increase in productivity. MSU, Mankato will gain experience in Pro Model manufacturing software and increase knowledge of   workplace manufacturing needs. Trainees will receive certificates of competition. Wages after training will range from $10.50 an hour to $35.22 per hour.

Pathways

This project will train 1643 healthcare workers and nurses in a variety of core healthcare competencies including safety, confidentiality and infection control. Management skills, computer skills and Basic Nursing Skills clinical training will also be offered as needed to individual trainees. The Pathways component of this project will train 203 healthcare workers in core healthcare competencies and also focus on career pathway development for trainees. The business partners will improve retention by offering opportunities for career advancement. MSU, Mankato will extend its BSN program capacity. Wages after training will range from $8.00 to $31.77 an hour.
 
Century College Smurfit-Stone Consortium $340,000

Partnership

This project will assist the partner businesses, who specialize in flexible packaging design and manufacturing, by improving recruitment and retention of employees and increasing their ability to promote from within. Specialized curriculum for 351 trainees will focus on packaging design, technical math, automation and programmable controllers. Century College will benefit from the creation of a Paper Packaging Academic Center and paper packaging certification program. Wages after training will range from $11.25 to $15.00.
 
Northwest TC Marvin Windows & Doors $250,000

Partnership

This project expects to grow existing employee skills through apprenticeship options for Information Technology and existing CADD programs for 829 employees. Training encompasses three major areas: computer literacy, advanced software skills and online skills assessment. Northwest Technical College will gain a database creation curriculum that will support a national initiative to link IT skills with post secondary instruction. Wages after training will range from $9.23 to 19.23 per hour.
 
Northwest Technical College MeritCare Clinic, Bemidji $309,433

Partnership

Managing patient data has become increasingly complex. All employees of MeritCare are trained in Electronic Patient Records (EPR)systems. This program will orient 249 new and incumbent workers to the EPR system and also offer policy and procedure training.   Trainees will receive a certificate upon completion. MeritCare anticipates improved efficiency and accuracy. Northwest TC will gain the capacity to deliver EPR training to other MeritCare sites. Wages after training will range from $8.00 to $16.00 an hour.
 
Northwest Technical College Phoenix Industries $255,000

Partnership

Phoenix is investing more than 1.5 million dollars in new equipment and facilities. This project will train 117 employees in new manufacturing technologies and allow Phoenix to become QS 9000 certified. Phoenix anticipates decreased turnover, increased production and an increased customer base. Northwest TC will improve its robotics curriculum and gain experience in QS 9000 training. Wages after training will range from $8.77 to $14.71 per hour.
 
Anoka-Ramsey Community Data Sciences International $350,000

Partnership

DSI is a rapidly growing biomedical data systems developer and its production methods require specialized knowledge of proprietary information. The “Design for Manufacturability and Reliability” program will focus on training 224 employees in new product development, product improvement, creativity and innovation. Anoka-Ramsey will use this project as a model for developing similar training programs. Wages after training will range from $14.00 to $48.00 per hour.
 
Anoka-Ramsey Community Mercy and Unity Hospitals $380,000

Partnership

The partner hospitals are facing a severe labor shortage. This project will increase job satisfaction for 1136 healthcare workers and encourage career mobility within the profession. Needs assessment and training will take place in three phases: Research Care Delivery Models, Curriculum Development and Delivery of Training. Anoka-Ramsey expects this project to enhance web-based education and create an entry point for healthcare programs. Wages after training will be from $10.55 to $26.50 per hour.
 
Hennepin Technical College Alliant Techsystems & Mammoth $322,000

Partnership

This project will train 325 welders, brazers, electrical assemblers and screw machine operators. Existing course curriculum from HTC will be used as a base curriculum, which will be customized to meet the specific needs of each partner. The partner businesses expect this project to provide greater flexibility to meet changing production needs. This project will enhance HTC’s manufacturing training capacity. Wages after training will range from $14.37 to $19.41 per hour.
 
Hennepin Technical College ExpressPoint Tech Services $400,000

Partnership

ExpressPoint Technology needs to improve employee skills, particularly in the repair of technology components. Training for 498 employees will be divided into three parts: Advanced Occupational English, A+ Curriculum Development and Supervisory Management. ExpressPoint expects this training project to add flexibility, improve production and prepare employees for promotion.   HTC will establish a “train the trainer” resource for other colleges. Wages after training will range from $10.50 to $30.00 an hour.
 
South Central Technical Hickory Tech $36,614

Partnership

The Information Solutions division of Hickory Tech is developing a new comprehensive billing system for customers. This system uses a new operating system and employees need to become skilled   in Client/Server platforms and Object Orient languages. This training will enable Hickory Tech to retain 20 quality employees by upgrading their skills. SCTC will gain insight into current industry practices and trends. Wages after training will range from $24.00 an hour to $28.00 an hour.
 
South Central Technical LCS Precision Molding $115,000

Partnership

LCS needs to improve product quality. It will establish a formalized training plan for 54 employees that continuously documents improvement in product quality. In addition, it plans to introduce Mas90 manufacturing software to extend online services. Training will include Quality Control, ISO 9001, Electronic Commerce and Mas 90 Software. LCS will develop quality control personnel, improve performance and develop a continuous improvement plan. SCTC will gain curriculum in Mas90. Wages after training will range from $7.50 to $55.00 per hour.
 
South Central Technical Delta-Waseca, Inc. $125,000

Partnership

Delta-Waseca manufactures dry freight and refrigerated van bodies. This project will establish formal training for new hires and a new accounting and materials management process. There will be 65 new and incumbent workers trained in technical a skills and inventory management. Delta-Waseca expects to reduce labor costs and improve safety. SCTC will gain new curricula in material planning and inventory management. Wages after training will range from $11.00 to $17.54 an hour.
 
South Central Technical Brown Printing $350,000

Partnership

Brown has been using temporary staffing services. It would like to hire these workers permanently, but most lack the language skills necessary to pass Brown’s hiring exam. In addition, the printing business is facing changing technologies. SCTC and Brown will train 700 workers in English as a second language, (DDI) coworker relations and conflict resolution and computer-assisted design programs such as PageMaker and Adobe. SCTC will gain a DDI certified instructor. Wages after training will range from $9.84 to $28.00 per hour.  
 
Bemidji State Stenberg Welding & Fabricating $68,072

Partnership

Stenberg and Bemidji State will train 60 incumbent workers in measures to reduce “work- in-process.” Training will include production and inventory control, quality control, total production maintenance and supply chain management. Stenberg expects to increase production capacity and market share. Bemidji State expects to increase its range of custom training offerings. Wages after training will range from $8.00 an hour to $12.00 per hour.
 
MMCD’s Teamworks Motek Engineering $260,000

Partnership

Machine operator positions are among the hardest to fill in the state. This training program for 245 machine operators will teach technical skills, leadership skills and offer certification. This training will assist Motek in expanding its product line. Teamworks will benefit by adding new curriculum to its existing program. Wages after training will range from $9.50 an hour to $35.00 an hour.
 
Mesabi Range College Hibbing Taconite $201,000

Partnership

The job of Taconite Maintenance Mechanic(TMM) is the most critical position in the taconite industry.   This program will train 775 TMMs in predictive and preventive maintenance. Mesabi’s curriculum will be based on a job profiling report by SkillsNET and be offered for credit. In addition, customized non credit courses will be designed for each participating employer. Well-trained TMM workers will result in increased production and cost efficiency. Wages after training will range from $12.00 to $20.00.
 
St. Paul Technical College Viking Drill & Tool $201,598

Partnership

Viking and St. Paul TC have developed a workplace GED/ESL program to provide a career path, reduce turnover and alleviate on-the-job communication problems. Training for 319 employees will be in three areas: Core Skills Development, Work Station Basic Skill Development and Lead/Supervisory Specific Training. This project will increase the college’s capacity to create skill development education. Wages after training will range from $9.50 an hour to $17.00 an hour.
 
North Hennepin C.C. Select Comfort $385,508

Partnership

Select Comfort is facing a new era of growth and technology-based innovation. Select Comfort and North Hennepin have developed technology training for 384 employees in web development, Internet-based graphic design, technology communication needs and technology management needs. Select Comfort will be able to expand its Dot Com Department. North Hennepin will be able to create technology training that may be adapted for other businesses. Wages after training will range from $13.00 to $40.00.
 
North Hennepin C.C. Caterpillar Paving Products $365,266

Partnership

Caterpillar and North Hennepin have developed a program that will train 636 employees to improve production skills through distance learning and web-based instruction models. Training will include Heavy Equipment and OSHA Regulations and Data Drive Decisions Making curriculum. This program will prepare employees for higher-level positions and increase safety, efficiency and productivity. This program will enhance the college’s “distance learning” capacity. Wages after training will range from $15.38 to $37.70 an hour.
 
Ridgewater C.T.C Affiliated Comm. Consortium $397,272 Partnership

The partner businesses are healthcare service providers facing a critical shortage of nursing assistants, home health aides, Licensed Practical Nurses and Registered Nurses. This program will train 339 new and incumbent workers in the Business Model of Healthcare and Technology Infomatics. Ridgewater will develop a new core curriculum in healthcare. The partner’ businesses will increase employee retention through advancement opportunities. The Pathways component of this project will train 50 entry-level bilingual, multi-cultural healthcare workers. The partner businesses anticipate that the new hires will gain skills that will enable them to succeed in a healthcare career path. Ridgewater will benefit from the addition of occupational English and occupational Spanish to its curriculum. Wages after training will range from $9.00 to $19.00 per hour.
 
Inver Hills C. C. Cisco II Consortium $400,000

Partnership

The participating businesses, including Northwest Airlines, Qwest, West Group, Fortis and Well Fargo, all face a shortage of workers trained in Cisco computer network technology. This project will establish a Cisco Certified Network Professional Program to train 197 employees.   After completing 192 hours of instruction, trainees will take a CCNP exam. ICHH expects this project to greatly extend its ability to deliver technology instruction. The partner businesses will benefit from affordable, customized training programs. Wages after training will range from $21.00 to $66.00 an hour.  
 
Rochester C.T.C. Mayo Clinic $225,000

Partnership

The Mayo Clinic IT Department has determined that 7 3 help desk employees need training in several areas to enable help desk staff to promptly answer the technology questions of the medical staff. Training will consist of PC Technology Training, Support Skills Training and Performance Competency Evaluation. Those completing training will be certified. The Minnesota Certified Help Desk Professionals program is new to Rochester C.T.C. Wages after training will range from $8.00 to $18.50 an hour.
 
MN West C.T.C. Prairie Farmers Coop $58,259

Partnership

Prairie Farmers Cooperative is a consortium owned by 85 family farmers. The cooperative is constructing a state-of-the-art pork processing facility, which will create 45 new jobs in the Dawson area. This project will create an intensive training program that will meet start-up time lines. Courses will be 40% lecture and 60% lab and will be credit based. The college will develop curriculum that can be offered to other meat processors throughout the region. Wages after training will range from $9.00 to $48.00 per hour.
 
Workforce Development Inc. Freeborn Nursing Homes $145,000

Healthcare and Human Services

This Healthcare and Human Services project will train 60 entry level healthcare workers. This Certified Nursing Assistant Training Program has been developed to reach Spanish-speaking Welfare recipients in the Freeborn County area. Riverland Community College will provide 12 weeks of bilingual classroom and work site instruction using modified existing curriculum. The project will alleviate short staffing problems that have restricted nursing home admissions. Wages after training will range from $8.20 to $8.50 an hour.
 
Ridgewater C.T.C. Bethesda Healthcare Consortium $525,295 Healthcare and Human Services
This Healthcare and Human Services project will train 245 entry-level healthcare workers. This project targets recruitment and retention efforts to the minority community and employs strategies to guarantee a higher success rate for new entrants into the healthcare and human services field. This project will develop adult basic education programs with a healthcare specific curriculum. Wages after training will range from $9.00 to $10.00 an hour.
 
Rochester C.T.C. Karrington Cottages $125,336

Healthcare and Human Services

This Healthcare and Human Services project will train 30 entry-level healthcare workers. Olmstead County has experienced a dramatic migration of people from East Africa. These newcomers face significant barriers in obtaining and retaining employment. This project will establish important linkages between the business, college and organizations that can assist with the recruitment and training of Somalian trainees. Job coaches will work closely with trainees as they participate in intensive ESL and job skills training. Wages after training will range from $8.50 to $10.50 an hour.
