Hoffman Enclosures Workforce Initiates Continuous Improvement Training with State Grant
~ Machining, Welding, Expanded Lean Training for 1,300 ~

St. Paul – Hoffman Enclosures, Inc., located in Anoka, will expand its continuous improvement efforts over the next two years by creating a standardized, industry-recognized training program.  The training partnership will also include Anoka Technical College and the Department of Employment and Economic Development’s Minnesota Job Skills Partnership (MJSP).

The $298,434 MJSP grant will support a two-year training collaboration; Hoffman Enclosures will contribute more than $1.3 million to fund the training project.

“The complete training program that results from this grant will enable Hoffman Enclosures to develop a workforce with globally competitive and marketable skills,” said DEED Commissioner and MJSP Board Chair Dan McElroy. “We anticipate Anoka Technical College’s greater ability to provide Lean manufacturing and advanced precision manufacturing training will be shared with a variety of regional businesses.”

Twenty-three courses will be offered to current and new Hoffman Enclosures employees, including manufacturing, metal fabrication, operations, administration and management. Nine courses, focused on new employees and current workers, will include introduction to math, use of math in industry, general shop safety, and metal fabrication. Company subject-matter experts will deliver 11 Lean manufacturing courses, and three sheet metal-forming classes for operators will be given. In addition, coaching and career counseling will complement classroom training.

The MJSP offers technical, financial and job training assistance to businesses, communities, educational institutions and workers. The board brings businesses with specific education needs together with educational institutions to design customized training programs.
