Job Skills Grant for Four Rural Hospitals
~ Continuous Improvement Training for 413 Healthcare Employees ~

St. PaulTraining in continuous improvement processes for employees of four rural hospitals is expected to enhance the quality of care and keep costs down. The training is a cooperative effort of Lake Region Hospital, Mahnomen Health Center, Perham Memorial Hospital, St. Francis Medical Center, Minnesota State Community and Technical College-Moorhead and the Department of Employment and Economic Development’s Minnesota Job Skills Partnership (MJSP).

The $263,146 MJSP grant will support a three-year training collaboration; the healthcare consortium will contribute more than $530,000 to fund the training project. Minnesota State Community and Technical College-Moorhead will provide entry-level and advanced training and retraining in continuous improvement processes that focus on making work visual to 413 CNAs, RNs, LPNs, managers, lab technicians and medical records staff.

“Bringing this training to four rural hospitals that are striving to remain competitive, will reduce waste and improve the productivity, morale and retention of staff,” said DEED Commissioner and MJSP Board Chair Dan McElroy. “Also, this collaboration will give Minnesota State Community and Technical College--Moorhead its first opportunity to develop continuous improvement curriculum for the healthcare industry.”

The MJSP offers technical, financial and job training assistance to businesses, communities, educational institutions and workers. The board brings businesses with specific education needs together with educational institutions to design customized training programs.
