Worker Services
Title I of the federal Workforce Investment Act (WIA) allows Minnesota to offer programs that serve Adults, Dislocated Workers, and youth between the ages of 14 and 21. To receive these services, individuals (at a minimum) must be authorized to work in the U.S. Additional eligibility requirements apply for Dislocated Workers and Youth Program services.
Services available through the Minnesota WorkForce Center system include Core, Intensive, and Training services. Core services are available to all job seekers and include assistance in job search and job placement, assessment of skills, labor market and career information and other similar services.
If job placement is not achieved through core services alone, intensive services may be available. Available services may include specialized assessments, career and employment development planning, short-term prevocational training such as communication or interviewing skills, and GED training.
Finally, training services may be available to individuals who are not successful in finding a job after receiving core and intensive services. A variety of training options are frequently available, such as on-the-job training. The local WorkForce Center staff provide guidance and assistance to customers using these services, in addition to working with local partners to ensure all participants receive quality services.
